Prioritising Every Child’s Safety and Wellbeing

Safeguarding is our utmost priority at Kids At Heart. We recognise the significant responsibility that comes with caring for young children and are fully committed to creating an environment where every child feels safe, valued and protected. Our safeguarding approach follows national guidance and best practice and is reviewed regularly to ensure procedures remain strong, clear and responsive. Any concerns about a child’s welfare are addressed promptly and sensitively, with well established systems for reporting, recording and escalating when required.

We believe safeguarding is most effective when everyone works together. For this reason, we maintain open and transparent communication with parents, carers and external professionals to ensure each child is fully supported. Our vigilant and proactive culture enables children to explore, learn and grow with confidence, while giving families complete reassurance that their child’s safety and wellbeing are always central to everything we do.

Accident and Incident Reporting

All accidents and incidents are recorded digitally on the Famly app in line with Department for Education requirements. This ensures clear documentation, secure storage and instant communication with parents. Every entry is reviewed by senior staff to maintain the highest standards of safety, transparency and compliance.

Secure Entry/Exit

Our nursery has a locked front entrance where visitors must buzz for access and are only admitted once approved by a member of the team. A second locked internal door, opened by staff only, provides an additional layer of security. Entry is restricted to approved parents, carers and authorised visitors, with clear arrival and collection procedures in place.

Staff Trained to National Safeguarding Standards

Every member of staff completes comprehensive Level 2 safeguarding training which meets the requirements outlined in Annex C of Keeping Children Safe in Education. This training covers recognising the signs of abuse and neglect, understanding disclosures, responding appropriately to concerns, and knowing exactly how to report and record information in line with statutory guidance. It also includes safer working practices, online safety, the Prevent duty, professional boundaries and understanding the roles of external agencies involved in child protection.

By ensuring the entire team has this depth of knowledge, we create a consistent, confident and highly informed approach to safeguarding throughout the nursery. Staff are equipped to identify concerns early, follow correct procedures and work proactively to protect every child. This shared expertise strengthens our culture of vigilance and ensures safeguarding is embedded in daily practice, not just policy.
